‘Gifts for Mother Mnemosyne’ was a month-long, Arts Council funded project which included two solo exhibitions, talks on memory and trace with philosophers Mark Currie and Chris Norris, and public collaborative events. The work explored memory, personal loss, ideas of land and origin through the lens of the German ‘Heimat’. Pinhole photography, rammed earth sculptures, porcelain casts and large scale drawings presented multiple narratives and reflections on inheritance and loss. The public collaborative events began the slow exploration how the personal/public can be combined and how spaces and viewpoints can be shared, that became ‘Periscope’.
